COURSES | M.A. IN FAMILY LIFE EDUCATION

M.A Family Life Education

A unique multidisciplinary compressed semester program where students are required to attend classes four times in two years. Students have to attend classes for two weeks in the month of August and two weeks in the month of May at the UIM Family Mission Centre, Bangalore. The online classes will be on Saturdays between 7-11 am, from September to April. It will be planned and intimated much in advance.

Basic Qualification: Any undergraduate degree from a recognized university.


LEARNING OUTCOMES

  • Enables the trained professional to have a thorough knowledge of the subject from a sociological, psychological, theological and legal perspective.

  • Can develop tailor-made curriculum for your church / organization to meet the need of the various life stages of family life.

  • Can initiate a strong Family Ministry Wing with regular preventive programs and events for the church / organization.

  • Will have good in-depth knowledge of the subject to deal with contemporary issues that family faces, which includes the needed skills in basic marriage and family counseling.

M. Sc. in Family Life Health Education

   FIRST YEAR

  1. Faith Spirituality –Survey of Biblical Families.
  2. Individuals & Families in Societal Context – Social analysis as a powerful tool in studying and working with families and impacting change.
  3. Human Growth & Development – To understanding constancy and change throughout the lifespan.
  4. Research Writing and Basic computer skill
  5. Theology of Christian Marriage and Family Life – A study of marriage and family from a Christian world view.
  6. Missional Family – To understand the concept of missional families & to apply the principles of missional families to the families of today
  7. Family Law & Public Policy – To learn a broad outline of laws pertaining to family issues and to write the public policies regarding family issues.
  8. Parental Education & Guidance – To gain an understanding on the parental roles, responsibilities, practices, and processes.
  9. Introduction to Family & Marriage Counselling – Understand and practice basic family & marriage counselling techniques in sessions & how Premarital and marriage counselling sessions are provided for couples
  10. Family Friendly Church – To understand the paradigm shift toward a home-centred church-supported ministry.

    SECOND YEAR

  11. Internal Dynamics – To understand the family strengths and weaknesses and how families relate to each other.
  12. Marriage and Marital Relationship – understand the dynamics that work in a marriage relationship and the how a Family Life Educator can develop appropriate teaching tools.
  13. Family Resource Management –  Practical and theoretical aspects of resource management and family systems dimensions of modern family life in a contemporary context.
  14. Human Sexuality – An understanding of the physiological, psychological, & social aspects of sexual development throughout the lifespan, so as to achieve healthy sexual adjustment.
  15. Professional Ethics – To understand the interplay of ethics and cultural mores & to creatively articulate one’s values, purpose and ethics.
  16. Family Life in Community – To explore the philosophy, values, approaches and models of FLE in community and gain understanding of opportunities and challenges of working in Urban poor community.
  17. Family Life in major Indian Religions – An understanding of various religious and other philosophical foundations of family life in major Indian religions (Hinduism, Islam etc) and how to reach out to these families and communities.
  18. Family Life Methodology (Part 1 and Part 2) – Identifying the needs of different audience and learning to plan, implement, and evaluate educational programs
  19. Interpersonal Relationships – Analyse interpersonal relationships using various theoretical perspectives.
  20. Thesis / Project
