COURSES | M. Sc. IN COUNSELLING AND FAMILY THERAPY

MA Family & Marriage Counseling
  • A unique multidisciplinary compressed semester program where students are required to attend classes four times in two years. Students have to attend classes for two weeks in the month of August and two weeks in the month of May at the UIM Family Mission Centre, Bangalore. The online classes will be on Saturdays between 7-11 am, from September to April. It will be planned and intimated much in advance.
  •  This course introduces and familiarizes the students with Marriage and Family concepts/therapies/approaches related to Christian counseling, intertwining the disciplines of Christian faith and Psychology. 
  • This course includes Counseling Practicum, which provides an opportunity to practice counseling skills under the supervision of an experienced practitioner, which equips students to plan and facilitate structured counseling sessions using various counseling aspects and techniques from a Christian prism.

Basic Qualification: Any undergraduate degree from a recognized university.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

  • Consolidated knowledge in various Ethical approaches to counseling from a Christian prism.

  • Excellence and integrity in Christian counseling practice in helping clients addressing and resolving specific problems, making decisions, coping with crises, improving relationships, developmental issues, promoting and developing personal awareness, working with feelings, thoughts, perceptions, and internal or external conflict.

  7. Professional Ethics in counseling 
  8. Theology of  Marriage and Family in Counseling 
  9. Integration of Faith and Psychology
  10. Family life and Spirituality: Part – 1
  11. Research Writing 
  12. Internship: Individual/Marriage supervised counseling practicum: Part – 1

 

Second Year:

  1. Family Life and Spirituality:  Part – 2
  2. CBT for Marriage and Family counseling: Part – 2
  3. Child-centered Therapy 
  4. Counseling families in Crisis and Trauma
  5. Project development training
  6. Human sexuality: (Theological, physiological and Psychological Aspects)
  7. Counseling families with special needs: Part – 2 (Addictions, Chronic Illness)
  8. Thanatology ( Study of death and dying) and Grief Counseling
  9. Supervised Classroom Practicum
  10. Internship:  Supervised  Individual/Marriage Counseling Practicum: Part – 2
  11.  Research Work: Thesis/ Program Development Project/ Work-related Project
