M. Sc. IN COUNSELLING AND FAMILY THERAPY

A unique multidisciplinary compressed semester program where students are required to attend classes four times in three years at the UIM-FRTI, Bangalore. Students registered under MLCU will travel to Shillong, Meghalaya in August of the third year. The online classes will be mostly on Saturdays between 7-11 am, from September to April. It will be planned and intimated much in advance.

Basic Qualification: Any undergraduate degree from a recognized university.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

  • Demonstrate mastery in individual, marriage, and family counseling techniques, including cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), child-centered therapy, and trauma-informed interventions, while effectively addressing both conscious and unconscious factors influencing relational dynamics.
  • Integrate faith, theology, and psychological theory to form a coherent and ethical approach to counseling that is both spiritually sensitive and clinically grounded, with a strong foundation in biblical interpretation, theology of marriage and family, and spiritual formation.
  • Assess and counsel individuals and families with complex needs, such as stress, burnout, addiction, trauma, grief, and crisis and develop & carry out ethically sound counseling framework using evidence based culturally competent methods for individuals, couples, and families.
  • Apply research methods and project development skills to create, evaluate, and implement contextually relevant interventions or programs, culminating in a thesis, program design, or work-related project.
  • Exhibit professional competency and ethical responsibility through extended supervised practicums, demonstrating reflective self-awareness, advanced counseling skills, and the ability to apply theoretical knowledge in diverse real-world clinical settings.
